Adolf Schulken

Adolf Schulcken (born September 18, 1569 in Geldern , † March 11, 1626 in Cologne ) was vicar general in the Archdiocese of Cologne .

Life

Schulcken was born in Geldern as the son of Dirick Schulcken and his wife Margaretha. He had a younger sister, Anna, who was born in 1571.

He attended the Montanergymnasium in Cologne. In 1599 he acquired the degree of a Magister Artium there. He then taught himself at this grammar school. At about the same time he is registered as a lecturer at the artist faculty in Cologne, which elected him its dean in 1606.

In 1602 he received a baccalaureus in theology, in 1604 a licentiate and in 1609 a doctorate in theology. From then on he also gave theological lectures at Cologne University . From 1616 he was also dean of this faculty.

From 1605 he can be proven as a canon of St. Georg and from 1606 as pastor of Klein St. Martin in Cologne.

From October 1616 to 1626 he held the office of vicar general in the Archdiocese of Cologne. It was not until 1618 that he was also a member of the Cologne Cathedral Chapter . From December 2, 1623 to October 8, 1625 he was also rector of the University of Cologne.

During his tenure as vicar general he went on visitation trips to the dean's office in Bergheim, to Neuss, Kempen, Bonn, the Eifel and the Duchy of Westphalia .

Adolf Schulcken died on March 11, 1626 in Cologne. He was buried in the Engelbertus Chapel in Cologne Cathedral . He assigned part of his assets to a study foundation (Schulckeniana), which was still administered in Cologne in the 19th century.
