Adolf Schwarz (born October 21, 1836 in Galszecs , Hungary , † October 25, 1910 in Vienna ) was an Austro-Hungarian chess master .

Life

Schwarz was a businessman and lived in Vienna from 1872 and was considered one of the strongest chess players in Austria .

His greatest successes were second place in Frankfurt am Main in 1878 (behind Louis Paulsen ), third at the 1st Congress of the German Chess Federation in Leipzig in 1879 , which Berthold English won, a shared first place in Wiesbaden 1880 (with Joseph Henry Blackburne and English) as well as the first place in Graz 1880.

He also contested several tackles. In 1878 he won against Johannes Minckwitz (+3 = 4 −2), in 1880 against Szymon Winawer 3: 1 and in 1897 against Adolf Albin 2: 1 (+2 = 0 −1). In 1879 he lost to Louis Paulsen 2: 5.

His best historical Elo rating was 2657. This he achieved in May 1882, at that time he was third in the world rankings.
