Adolf Stehmann (* in the 19th century ; † 1938 in Hannover ) was a German jurist , Justice Industry - manager and art collector .

Life

In the first quarter of the 20th century, Adolf Stehmann was considered an energetic lawyer who, among other things, acted as defense lawyer for the domain tenant Oswald Falkenhagen in the case of the district administrator Adolf von Bennigsen , who was killed in a duel . The much-noticed trial before the jury court in Hanover and the background and consequences of the drama found in the literature under the title The duel between District Administrator v. Bennigsen and domain leaseholder Falkenhagen received wide attention. Also at the time of the German Empire , Stehmann had a villa built in Hanover by the architect Maximilian Jagielski .

In the Hanoverian Aviation Association, founded in 1909 , Stehmann was one of the committee members of the association, together with balloonist Julius Precht , Kommerzienrat Siegmund Seligmann, and banker and business leader Bernhard Caspar , who raised half a million marks for the construction of an airfield in Hanover for airplanes , for the ascent of balloons and a port, especially for the airships of the Zeppelin Society. As early as 1910, the city councils, chaired by city director Heinrich Tramm, discussed the construction of a city-owned airship hangar, which was then also built at the time of the First World War in 1915. Together with Julius Precht, Stehmann himself was one of the balloonists of the Pelikan balloon, which went into operation in 1910 .

After Stehmann had worked as legal advisor to the tire and rubber goods manufacturer Continental AG in the early 1920s , he took over the duties of chairman of the supervisory board of "Conti" in 1926 , while in the same year the Continental general director Willy Tischbein was a member of the supervisory board of Aktiengesellschaft was chosen.

In his private life, the Judicial Council was considered to be an "avid art collector who loved a comfortable life". The painter and graphic artist August Heitmüller made a portrait drawing of Stehmann as one of the leading figures in Hanover at the end of the 1920s.

Even at the time of National Socialism, the Justice Council Dr. jur. According to the address book of the city of Hanover from 1934, Adolf Stehmann worked as a lawyer and notary at Georgstraße 20 , while he privately used the apartment at Bemeroder Straße 39 as the owner .

Adolf Stehmann died in Hanover in 1938.
