Adolff Wilhelm Moerbecke to Stevening

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Adolff Wilhelm Moerbecke zu Stevening (* 1611 ; † 1675 ) was a chronicler during the Thirty Years War . He came from the Westphalian Wüllen in Ahaus . His ancestors came from Overijssel .

He probably began writing down in Dutch at the beginning of the 1640s. He reports on the period from 1633 onwards, describing the billeting of Hessian troops in the Münster area , the Düsseldorf cow war , the conflicts between Christoph Bernhard von Galen and the capital of his territory, and between the prince-bishopric and the Netherlands, and also about the Swedish -Bremen War , the Swedish-Danish War and the Anglo-Dutch War . Moerbecke relied primarily on printed publications; the best known, Theatrum Europaeum and Diarium Europaeum , can largely be excluded as a source of information.

The chronicle is now in the Overijssel Historical Center in Zwolle . It was transcribed by Jürgen Strothmann .
