Jürgen Strothmann

Jürgen Strothmann (born March 11, 1966 in Braunschweig ) is a German historian .

Life

From 1986 to 1992 he studied history, ancient history and philosophy at the Ruhr University in Bochum , where he obtained his Magister Artium in 1992 . From 1992 to 1995 he was a research assistant at the Ruhr University Bochum (at the chair for late medieval history) and at the Technical University of Dortmund ( sociology ). He received his PhD on June 27, 1996 . From 1997 to 1999 he was a research assistant at the Westphalian Archives Office of the Westphalia-Lippe Regional Association for the edition of Adolf Wilhelm Moerbecke's chronicle of Stevening on Westphalian and European history in the 17th century. From 2000 to 2002 he was employed at the ThyssenKrupp corporate archive in Duisburg . He taught at the University of Paderborn from 2003 to 2011 . From 2007 to 2009 he was a research assistant in the interdisciplinary DFG project Merovingian monetary coins . Since May 2011 he has been a teacher for special tasks in ancient and medieval history at the University of Siegen and since his habilitation on July 19, 2013, he has been teaching there as a private lecturer .

His main focus is on the threshold between late antiquity and the early Middle Ages and the history of political ideas and orders in antiquity and the Middle Ages. Strothmann examines the political functioning of the Carolingian Empire and the continuing Roman administrative units ( civitates ) in early medieval Gaul. In addition, the monetary coins of the Merovingian period and the development of the Alpine region between antiquity and the Middle Ages are among his research interests.
