Jörg Jarnut

Jörg Jarnut (born March 1, 1942 in Weimar ) is a German historian .

Jörg Jarnut received his doctorate in 1970 in Bonn with Eugen Ewig with the thesis Prosopographische und Sozial-historicalstudien on the Lombard Empire in Italy (568-774) . 1977 followed with the work supervised by Ewig on the constitutional, social and economic history of Bergamo, the habilitation at the University of Bonn. In 1980 he became an adjunct professor there. From 1983 to 2007 Jarnut held the chair for Medieval History at the University of Paderborn . His successor was Hermann Kamp in 2008 . Jarnut is one of the directors of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research into the Middle Ages and its afterlife at the University of Paderborn. He has been a full member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia since 1999 . His work and research focus is the European history of the early and high Middle Ages .
