Adolf of Tecklenburg

Adolf von Tecklenburg (* around 1185 in Tecklenburg ; † June 30, 1224 in Osnabrück ), also called Adolf von Osnabrück , was a bishop of Osnabrück and a saint of the Catholic Church since 1651 .

Adolf von Tecklenburg was born as the youngest son of Count Simon von Tecklenburg and Oda von Berg-Altena. He became a canon at Cologne Cathedral at a relatively young age , but then entered the Kamp monastery as a Cistercian monk . In 1216 he was elected Bishop of Osnabrück . However, the election had to be repeated because it was by Pope Honorius III. was not recognized. In the second election, Adolf von Tecklenburg was re-elected and consecrated bishop on September 24, 1217. On November 5, 1222, he assisted the consecration in the Cistercian monastery Marienfeld . During his time in office he excelled as a church reformer and is said to have taken care of the poor and the sick in particular.
