Adolf Freiherr von Wolff-Metternich zur Gracht (born September 4, 1618 , † September 25, 1641 in Siena ) was a canon in Münster and a Knight of Malta .

Life

Origin and family

Adolf Freiherr von Wolff called Metternich came from the Westphalian noble family von Wolff-Metternich and was the son of court official Johann Adolf Wolff Metternich zur Gracht (1592–1669) and his wife Maria Katharina von Hall zu Strauweiler, whom he married in 1615. Adolf had 15 siblings:

  • Degenhard Adolf (1616–1668, bailiff of Lechenich, owner of the Gracht family castle, father of Prince-Bishop Franz Arnold )
  • Sophia Maria (1619–1625, Augustinian choirwoman in the Schillingscapellen Abbey )

  • Sophia Margaretha (1627–1647, ⚭ 1644 with Adolf von Gymnich )

Act

On May 28, 1629, with the revolt , Adolf came into the possession of the Münster cathedral patrons . His father asked the cathedral chapter by letter of July 20, 1641 for approval of the intended resignation of his son, who had decided to join the Order of Malta . The cathedral chapter agreed to the waiver by transferring the prebend to one of his brothers.
