Adolfas Aleksejūnas

Adolfas Aleksejūnas (born June 27, 1937 in Meliniai , Šiauliai district , now Pakruojis Rajongemeinde ) is a Lithuanian athlete who competed for the Soviet Union. In 1964 he was Olympic 7th in the 3000 meter obstacle course .

successes

In 1963 and 1964 Aleksejūnas took fourth place at the Soviet championships, in 1965 he reached second place behind Viktor Kudinski , in 1966 he placed third.

As early as 1963 he started together with Nikolai Sokolow in Leuven and took third place behind Sokolow in the race in which the Belgian Gaston Roelants set his first world record. Aleksejūnas also received a nomination for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics . In the third run, he improved his personal best to 8: 31.8 minutes and thus undercut the Olympic record set by Maurice Herriott in the second run. With this performance he defeated Gaston Roelants in his preliminary run, who had only paid attention to his safe progress. In the final, Aleksejūnas tried to keep up with the pace of the favorite Roelants, but in the end he fell behind and was overtaken by several faster runners. In 8: 39.0 minutes, he finished seventh.

With a height of 1.72 m, his competition weight was 66 kg.

Life

In 1972 he graduated from the Faculty of History at the Vilniaus pedagoginis institutas in Vilnius . After his career he worked as a sports journalist . In 2007 he was a board member of Lietuvos tautinis olimpinis komitetas .
