Viktor Kudinski

Viktor Vladimirovich Kudinski ( Russian Виктор Владимирович Кудинский , Ukrainian Віктор Володимирович Кудинський , Eng. Transcription Viktor Vladimirovich Kudinskiy * 17th June 1943 in Kiev , died on 18th August 2005 ) was an athlete who for the Soviet Union took. In 1966 he was European champion in the 3000 meter obstacle course .

Life

Kudinski won the obstacle course in 1965 at the first European Athletics Cup in 8: 41.0 minutes. A year later at the European Athletics Championships in Budapest , Kudinski finished fourth in his preliminary run in 8: 48.2 minutes and qualified for the final, but did not look like a favorite. The real favorite, the Belgian Gaston Roelants , had improved the world record to 8: 26.4 minutes in 1965 and had not lost an obstacle race since 1961. In the final, Roelants took the lead after two laps and quickly got a lead over the other runners. At the beginning of the last lap, Roelants was still leading. Kudinski and his teammate Anatoli Kurjan tried to close the gap. Kudinski passed Roelants at the last moat, and Kurjan was able to overtake Roelants just before the finish. Kudinski won in 8: 26.6 minutes, the second fastest time ever run. Behind Kurjan and Roelants, four national records were broken in places 4 to 7.

In 1968 Kudinski won the 3000 meter run at the European Indoor Games in Madrid in 8: 10.22 minutes ahead of Bernd Dießner from the GDR. At the Olympic Games in Mexico City , Kudinski was able to qualify for the final in the obstacle course, but gave up there.

From 1965 to 1968 he was Soviet champion four times in a row in the 3000 meter obstacle course. In 1966 he was also champion over 5000 meters .

Viktor Kudinski is 1.68 m tall and weighed 63 kg during his playing days.
