Adolfo Meléndez

Adolfo Meléndez Cadalso (born June 2, 1884 in A Coruña , † June 4, 1968 in Madrid ) was a Spanish football official.

First term

Meléndez was associated with the Madrid Foot Ball Club from the start , as a player and as secretary to the first board of directors after the club was founded in 1902. In 1908 he was elected the club's fourth president. During his first term of office, which lasted until July 1916, the establishment of the Estadio de O'Donnell took place , where there was a grandstand for 200 spectators and, for the first time, changing rooms for the players. The stadium was officially inaugurated on October 31, 1912 with a game against Racing Club Irún . During this time the club won the Campeonato Centro three times : 1909/10, 1912/13, 1915/16. Because of his meritorious work, Meléndez was appointed honorary president of the association in 1913.

Second term

After the end of the Spanish civil war , a new board was elected in April 1939 to revive the association, and Adolfo Meléndez was appointed president for the second time. He had the badly damaged Estadio de Chamartín repaired so that it could be reopened on October 22, 1939 with a victory in the Madrid derby against the Athletic Aviación Club . On November 27, 1940 he handed over his office to Antonio Santos Peralba .
