Life

origin

Adolph Bogislaff von Kleist came from the Tychow-Dubberow line of his primeval Pomeranian family, who provided numerous high officers and civil servants in the Prussian state. His parents were Martin Rüdiger von Kleist (1682–1762), landlord on Franzen, and Margarethe Sophia von Below.

Military career

Adolph Bogislaff, like many of his family members, chose the soldier profession and became an infantry officer in the Prussian Army . On December 6, 1754 he was appointed ensign in the infantry regiment "von Jeetze" . On October 3, 1756 he was promoted to second lieutenant and on February 12, 1758 to prime lieutenant. When the Austrians under General Laudon attacked the Prussians in Neustadt near Neisse on March 15, 1760 , the Prussians (regiment "von Manteuffel" and two squadrons of Bayreuth Dragoons) had to retreat to the Neisse fortress. In this battle Adolph Bogislaff was seriously wounded. On March 22nd or shortly thereafter, King Frederick II awarded him the order Pour le Mérite. Adolph Bogislaff von Kleist died shortly afterwards on April 11, 1760 of the wounds he had received in the battle of Neustadt. He was unmarried.
