Adolph Compenius
Adolph Compenius (* around 1588; † 1650 in Hanover ) was a German organ builder and organist.
Life
He was the son of Esaias Compenius the Elder from his first marriage and before 1605 did an apprenticeship in his father's workshop. Around 1606 he was based in Magdeburg . As an organ builder, he first appeared in his father's new building at the Martinikirche in Kroppenstedt, which was completed in 1613 .
In 1620 he built a new organ for the court chapel in Bückeburg . He then settled in Rinteln and worked there as an organ builder until 1625. From 1626 to 1636 and from 1644 to 1650 he is recorded as organist at the Aegidienkirche in Hanover. There he lived in the neighborhood of the organist Melchior Schildt . In the intervening years he was active in Bremen. Here he was called as an appraiser on the organ of the Liebfrauenkirche , built by Johannes and Jost Sieburg in 1641 , and together with the organists Jacob Praetorius and Heinrich Scheidemann discovered various defects in the instrument.
Adolph Compenius shared the good reputation of his family, which produced several well-known organ builders. Because of his years in Rinteln, he was called "Schaumburger". Little is known of his son Peter Lorenz Compenius (1628–1653), who never grew old, and another son (1634–1641), who died as a child.
