Adolph W. Knüppel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Adolph W. Knüppel (born July 28, 1933 in Ehringen ; † January 20, 2017 in Münster ) was a German architect, designer and sculptor . Many of his sculptures are set up in Münster in public spaces. He last lived in Münster-Gievenbeck.

Life

Adolph W. Knüppel owes his first name to the seizure of power by the National Socialists: "At that time it was common and natural that a new man for Germany should be called Adolph" (quote from Adolph W. Knüppel). The horrors of war have frightened him so much that the desire for peace runs like a thread through his life.

After school he did an apprenticeship as a painter and then studied at the Werkkunstschule Kassel. He was a master student of the painter Josef Albers .

Because of his talent, he was appointed an architect and from 1957 worked in several architectural offices. He worked for Professor Harald Deilmann for twelve years and was also involved in his largest project, the John F. Kennedy School in Berlin. From 1985 he worked as a freelance architect. He also held teaching positions in the art education department of the Münster University of Education and the architecture department of the Münster University of Applied Sciences. During this time he also met his future wife Hildegard, who started working for Harald Deilmann as an architect in 1961. They married in 1965 and have two children.
