Adolphe Willette , actually Adolphe-Léon Willette , (born July 31, 1857 in Châlons-sur-Marne , Département Marne , † February 4, 1926 in Paris ) was a French illustrator, caricaturist and painter.

Life

Willette was a son of Marshal François-Achille Bazaine's aide-de-camp . Willette received his first artistic lessons in his hometown. At the age of 18 he came to Paris in 1875 to the École des Beaux-Arts and was a. a. Pupil of Alexandre Cabanel .

After four years he left the EBA and started drawing for various newspapers and magazines. As a cartoonist he was regularly featured in the daily press; He signed his works there with the pseudonyms "Bebe", "Cemoi", "Loison", "Nox" and "Pierrot".

In 1920 he founded the République de Montmartre together with Jean-Louis Forain , Maurice Neumont and Francisque Poulbot . Until August 14, 1923 he headed the RdM as its president.

Adolphe Willette died in Paris when he was not quite 69 and found his final resting place on the Cimetière de Montmartre .
