Oil pipelines in Europe and Northwest Asia

The Adria pipeline , also known as JANAF pipeline or Yugoslavia pipeline known is an oil - pipeline in Southeast Europe . It was completed in 1974 and was originally intended to transport crude oil from the Middle East and North Africa from the deep-sea port of Omišalj on the island of Krk in Croatia to refineries inland.

The pipeline connects refineries in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina , Serbia and Slovenia - including in Sisak , Bosanski Brod , Novi Sad , Pancevo and Lendava - with the Adriatic Sea . A separate pipeline branches off from Sisak towards Hungary . The diameter of the pipes is 91 centimeters on the section from Omišalj to Sisak and 71 centimeters from Sisak to Hungary.

The possibility of reversing the flow of the Adriatic pipeline and connecting it to the Druzhba pipeline in Hungary in order to import excess oil from Russia has been under discussion since the 1990s. Although six countries had already signed an agreement on this in 2002, a connection between these two pipelines could not be realized due to environmental concerns .
