Adria Santana Rodríguez (born December 16, 1948 in Las Tunas , Oriente Province , † September 30, 2011 in Havana ) was a Cuban actress who was considered one of the most important actresses in modern Cuban theater .

Life

Adria Santana made her acting debut in March 1972 at the theater group Teatro Estudio , led by Raquel and Vicente Revuelta , and shaped their work in the following years. In the course of her acting career, she worked with well-known Cuban theater directors and playwrights such as Abelardo Estorino , Hector Quintero and Armando Suárez del Villar and became known for her extensive repertoire .

She also worked with Estorino at the Spanish-language Teatro Repertorio Español in New York City between 1997 and 2000, during which time she worked under the Colombian director Jorge Alí Triana . In 1997 she received the Asociación de Cronistas de Espectáculos de Nueva York Prize for her portrayal of 'Greta' in La Peñas saben nadar and the 2001 Internacional del monólogo Prize in Miami .

Santana, who received the Alejo Carpentier Medal and was considered one of the most important actresses in modern Cuban theater, also starred in a few films and died of complications from cancer .
