On June 4, 1636, on June 6, 1642, on March 17, 1643 and finally on April 28, 1647 as a doctor of law. Above all, he will have completed his studies with Arnoldus Vinnius (1588–1657). He then worked as a lawyer at the court of the Netherlands, was appointed extraordinary professor of law at the University of Leiden on June 8, 1654 , which office he took up with a speech on July 9, 1654. On May 8, 1655 he became a full professor of law in Leiden and lectured in the Pandects from 1659 . After he had participated in the organizational tasks of the Alma Mater as rector in 1663 , he took over the professorship of Dutch civil, constitutional and international law in 1667. He died two years later.

Own writings do not exist. Rather, its importance lies in the practical areas of law. In 1657 he paid tribute to his former teacher, friend and colleague Vinnius with an eulogy. This was published in Leiden in 1657 under the title Oratio funebris in obitum nob: et toto orbe celeberrimi viri D. Arn. Vinnii JCt and also seems to have been held as part of a rectorate. In addition, the curator of Leiden Cornelis de Witt had honored him with Panegyricus dictus illustri et strenuo viro Cornelio Wittio 7 Idus Novembris anno 1667 in auditorio theologico (Leiden 1667). Some of his reports are known. Jonas Suyderhoef engraved his portrait in copper in 1643.
