Following the example of Jan Brueghel the Elder and influenced by Esaias van de Velde, he painted landscapes with figures in brilliant colors (for example: summer and winter , in the Museum in Berlin, the fair , in the Reichsmuseum in Amsterdam the armistice festival , in the Louvre closed Paris; the festival in front of a castle , in the gallery in Kassel), but also grisailles with hunting scenes, horse rides and others. He created illustrations for the works of Jacob Cats and Jan de Brune , which his older brother Jan edited. His main work is the soul fishing of Catholic and Protestant clergy in the Reich Museum in Amsterdam . His poem “De Zeensche Mey-clacht” (1623), which addresses the old conflict between painting and poetry, reflects his humanistic and didactic understanding of images.
