Adrian Merlo

Adrian Merlo (* 1957 in Flawil / St. Gallen) is a Swiss neurosurgeon .

Career

Merlo studied medicine at the Universities of Friborg and Zurich from 1977 to 1983 . In 1983 he passed the medical state examination and received his doctorate in the same year. Between 1984 and 1993 he completed his practical training at the canton hospitals of Aarau , St. Gallen and Basel , and in 1993 he was also awarded the title of specialist in neurosurgery. From 1993 to 1995 Merlo did a research stay in tumor molecular genetics at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore (USA), after which he accepted a position as senior physician at the University Hospital Basel .

In 1998 he completed his habilitation and was appointed private lecturer in neurosurgery at the University Hospital Basel. Also in 1998, Merlo accepted a position as a senior physician for neurosurgery at the Cantonal Hospital Basel, and in 2001 he was appointed as an associate professor for neurosurgery at the University Hospital Basel. In 2006 he was awarded the Cloëtta Prize for his medical research work.

From 2006 to 2008 Merlo was chief physician ai neurosurgery at the University Hospital Basel, since September 2008 he has been running a neurosurgical practice in Bern .
