Adrianus Cornelis van Leeuwen

Adrianus Cornelis van Leeuwen , also Adriaan Cornelis van Leeuwen , (born October 30, 1887 in Oudewater , † June 30, 1991 in Arnhem ) was a Dutch composer and conductor .

The local organist and simultaneous conductor of the music association gave him his first music lessons. After a short time, the young Adriaan was playing in the flugelhorn music club . At the age of 16 he entered the service of the music corps of the 8th Infantry Regiment in Arnhem. During this time he received lessons in music theory and composition from Dr. van Westrenen , Brants Buys and an organist Christiaans, with whom he also studied Gregorian music . In 1923 he was accepted as a cornetist in the Koninklijke Militaire Kapel in The Hague . In 1933 he was appointed deputy conductor of the orchestra, which he directed during the frequent illnesses of the conductor Walther Boer . In addition, he was also active as a trumpeter in the orchestra of the Nederlandse Opera and with the Philharmonic Orchestra in Rotterdam under the direction of Eduard Flipse .

After completing his exam as Kapellmeister, he became conductor of the music corps of the 6th Infantry Regiment in Breda in 1936 . Four years later the music corps was disbanded and he retired. However, he continued to work as a composer and conductor for wind orchestras in Arnhem , Zutphen , Apeldoorn and Vlaardingen . He was awarded the Académie Française palms .
