Adrienne Elisha
Adrienne Elisha (born August 10, 1958 in Glen Cove , Long Island , New York ; died June 12, 2017 in Höxter ) was an American composer and violist .
Elisha studied composition at Indiana University in Bloomington with John Eaton , Donald Erb , Bernhard Heiden , Juan Orrego-Salas and Leonard Bernstein . She received a diploma in viola from the Cleveland Institute of Music , where she was assistant to Heidi Castleman , did a PhD at the University of Buffalo with David Felder and taught composition at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie.
In 1995 her work Passages was premiered by the Ohio Chamber Orchestra under the direction of David Lockington . In 1996 she was a guest composer and violist at the Warsaw Autumn Music Festival , where her compositions were performed and she played works for viola solo. In 1997 she was named Ohio Composer of the Year 1997 by the National Music Teachers' Association . Her cello concerto Cry of the Dove , which she wrote for cellist Steven Elisha , was premiered by him and the Cleveland Chamber Symphony in 2000. She wrote u. a. Vega Nor for string quartet, Anthelion for flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano and percussion, Lithuanian Dances for chamber orchestra, and Azure for eight strings.
She received further composition commissions a. a. from the Chamber Orchestra of Boston , the American Chamber Ensemble , the Ensemble Eighth Blackbird , the Denali Ensemble , the New York New Music Ensemble and the Arditti String Quartet . Her works have been performed at the June Festival in Buffalo , the Colorado Springs New Music Symposium , the Chintimini Chamber Music Festival and the International Bartók Festival in Szombathely , among others .
She was a fellow at the Edenkoben Manor (2009), the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, New Hampshire (2012) and the Rockefeller Center in Bellagio, Italy (2013).
