Aecidium dahliae maxonii is a stand fungal art from the order of the rust fungi (Pucciniales). The fungus is an endoparasite of the daisy family Dahlia maxonii . Symptoms of the infestation by the species are rust spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces of the host plants. She is endemic to Guatemala . Since only its secondary crop form is knownso far, it is classified in the genus Aecidium .

Macroscopic features
Aecidium dahliae-maxonii can only be recognized with the naked eye by means of the spore beds protruding on the surface of the host. They grow in nests that appear as yellowish to brown spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces.
Microscopic features
The mycelium of Aecidium dahliae maxonii grows as with all Aecidium TYPES intercellular and forms Saugfäden that grow into the storage tissue of the host. Its spermogonia are so far unknown. The aecia of the species growing underneath the leaves are yellowish, loosely grouped and cup-shaped. Their hyaline aecidiospores are 17–20 × 14–18 µm in size, broadly ellipsoidal to spherical and warty. The uredia of the mushroom are not known, and it is possible that they are not developed. The Telien the type have not been observed to date.

The host plant of Aecidium dahliae-maxonii is Dahlia maxonii . The fungus feeds on the nutrients present in the storage tissue of the plants, its spore beds later break through the leaf surface and release spores. The species goes through a micro- or macrocyclical development cycle with spermogonia, aecia, possibly also uredia and telia.
