Aeonium lancerottense is a species of the genus Aeonium in the thick-leaf family(Crassulaceae).

Vegetative characteristics

Aeonium lancerottense grows as a perennial , densely branched subshrub and reaches heights of up to 60 centimeters. The bare, net-like patterned, ascending shoots have a diameter of 7 to 15 millimeters. Their rather flat rosettes reach a diameter of 10 to 18 centimeters. The obovate or lanceolate spatulate, green to yellowish green, bluish, almost bare leaves are 5 to 9 centimeters long, 1.5 to 4 centimeters wide and 0.3 to 0.6 centimeters thick. Towards the point they are pointed and tailed. The base is wedge-shaped. The upper part of the leaf margin is covered with a few wrinkled eyelashes . The leaves are often reddish variegated along the margin near the tip .

Generative characteristics

The dome-shaped inflorescence has a length of 8 to 30 centimeters and a width of 8 to 25 centimeters. The inflorescence stalk is 6 to 20 inches long. The seven to eight-fold flowers are on a 1 to 3.5 millimeter long, bare flower stalk . Their sepals are weakly downy-haired to almost bald. The whitish, in the middle pink variegated, lanceolate, pointed petals are 6 to 9 millimeters long and 1 to 1.5 millimeters wide. The stamens are bare.

Chromosome number

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 36.

Systematics and distribution

Aeonium lancerottense is widespread in Lanzarote at heights of 200 to 600 meters.

The first description as Sempervivum lancerottense by Robert Lloyd Praeger was published in 1925. In 1932 he placed the species in the genus Aeonium .
