Aero Asia International was a private Pakistani airline based in Karachi at Jinnah International Airport . It was Pakistan's first low-cost airline .

history

Aero Asia was founded in 1993 and took off on May 4, 1993. It was initially owned by the Pakistani company group Tabani .

Initially, a fleet of between three and five Jakowlew Jak-42 D flew between the main Pakistani cities of Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore . As the demand increased, the machines were replaced by Boeing 737-200Adv and Douglas DC-9 .

In mid-2005, Aero Asia was granted permission for further flights to Great Britain , Scandinavia and Bahrain . In addition, an expansion of the fleet was announced. However, none of this was implemented.

On May 22, 2006, Aero Asia had to stop its flights at the behest of the civil aviation authority after it owed it several million rupees for air taxis.

On June 12, 2006, the British Regal Group bought Aero Asia from the Tabani Group, and the airline was then in a restructuring process. In mid-2006, the company's fleet was inactive for financial reasons. Flight operations were resumed at the beginning of 2007, but were banned again by the authorities in May 2007. The reason given was security concerns. Since Aero Asia did not initiate any improvements, it finally had to give up operations on May 19, 2007. Since then, the airline's owners have tried to put it back into operation, but unsuccessfully.

Aero Asia normally flew to inland and Persian Gulf destinations .
