Afa-Negus

Afa Negus ( Ethiop . አፈ ንጉሥ ) was a title at the court of the Negus Negest ( Emperor ) of Ethiopia and means the king's mouth . Originally the Afa Negus was the chief judge who had to pass judgments on behalf of the monarch . Under Emperor Menelik II , Afa Negus was the title of Ethiopian Minister of Justice from around 1900 . The dignity of the Afa Negus could only be bestowed by the emperor and in the traditional Ethiopian titulature it stood above the Dejazmach .
