Afonso Cruz (* 1971 in Figueira da Foz ) is a Portuguese writer , animator , illustrator and musician .

Life

Born in 1971 in the central Portuguese seaside resort of Figueira da Foz, he studied a. a. at the art school Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Lisboa in Lisbon. He made a number of cartoons, both commissioned for advertising and in his own name. He also plays in the blues band The Soaked Lamb , for which he writes music and lyrics and with whom he released two albums in 2007 and 2010.

In 2008 his first novel, A Carne de Deus (Eng .: God's flesh) was published. For his subsequent novels he received various literary prizes, including the European Union Literature Prize in 2012 for his novel A Boneca de Kokoschka (German: The Kokoschka Doll). He has also published children's and youth literature, partly in collaboration with other authors, e. B. José Jorge Letria .
