The African Regional Intellectual Property Organization ( ARIPO for short , WIPO country code AP, German “ African regional organization for intellectual property ”) has been an international organization for cooperation among African countries on patent , trademark and other industrial property issues, based in Harare , since 1976 . It has the competence to accept applications for patents and trademarks in its member states that are members of the Harare Protocol (patents) or Banjul Protocol (trademarks).

Its 19 member states are predominantly English-speaking . Another organization, the Organization Africaine de la Propriété Intellectuelle (OAPI), essentially encompasses Francophone Africa.

The organization was called the African Regional Industrial Property Organization until 2005 .
