The program structure is based on Euronews. The know-how of how the news is spread across the continent has been taken over from Euronews. Africanews was produced in Pointe-Noire for four years . The government of the Republic of the Congo supported the station financially with 37.5 million euros. At times the station employed around 85 people in editorial and technology in Pointe-Noire and 45 correspondents .

It was planned to add other languages later, including Swahili , Lingála , Spanish, Portuguese and Arabic. Mame Campbell Toure became the editorial manager of Africanews. The already agreed takeover of the station by the Sipromad group of companies from Madagascar in the amount of 20 million US dollars failed in July 2019. In January 2020, the workforce announced, citing the management, that the station was threatened with closure should none Find buyers. At the time, Africanews had 60 employees from twelve countries. At the end of July 2020, the station moved from Pointe-Noire to the Euronews headquarters in Lyon, France. Those previously employed in Pointe-Noire have been replaced by African journalists based in Europe.
