overview

Originally written after the tragedy, Kasischke waited 16 years for After the Wind to be released . The focus of the book is on the events up to the ascent, Kasischke's experiences on the mountain and his motivation to turn around 120 meters from the summit, as well as the close relationship with his wife Sandy. With the analytical skills that Kasischke has acquired over many years as a commercial lawyer, he offers new analyzes of the tragedy and the decisions - both individual and collective - that contributed to the tragedy. Although Kasischke avoids blaming individuals for the tragedy, he notes that the presence of journalist Jon Krakauer Rob Hall, whose company Adventure Consultants competed with Scott Fischer's Mountain Madness , could have resulted in mountain guide Rob Hall took untypical risks on the mountain in order to get as many customers as possible to the summit and then get cheap press coverage of Krakauer's report.
