Agamemnon Ioannou ( Greek Αγαμέμνων Ιωάννου ; born April 15, 1958 in Athens , Greece ) is a former Greek basketball player and coach. Ioannou was part of the selection that won the first European championship title for Greece in 1987.

Player career

Ioannou began his career in 1974 at Panathinaikos Athens, where he was under contract for 16 years and, in addition to six championships , was able to win three cups . In 1990 he moved to PAOK Thessaloniki where he won the European Cup Winners' Cup the following year . He was able to repeat this success again in 1993 with Aris Thessaloniki .

National team

Ioannou made his debut with the Greek national team in a game against Hungary on October 27, 1982. In the following eight years Ioannou came to 64 internationals and scored 249 points. His greatest success was winning the gold medal at the 1987 European Championships in his own country. He played his last game on August 19, 1990 in a game against Brazil . With the U16 national team, Ioannou won the silver medal at the 1975 European Championships.

Coaching career

Ioannou began his coaching career in 1994 with Aris Thessaloniki. In the following years he coached a number of Greek and Cypriot clubs. His most important successes include the four championships in a row that he won with Keravnos Strovolou and APOEL Nicosia. With Panionios Athens he reached third place in the Greek championship in 2004.
