Keravnos Strovolou ( Greek Γυμναστικός Σύλλογος Στροβόλου Κεραυνός Gymnastikos Syllogos Strovolou Keravnos ) is a Cypriot basketball club from Nicosia .

history

The club was founded in 1926, the basketball department has existed since 1964. As Keravnos Cyprus College , the club was a founding member of the top Cypriot division, Division 1 . The club has won this five times so far, for the first time in 1989 and most recently in 2008. In addition, the club has won the Cypriot basketball cup eight times.

Keravnos has played regularly in the European Cup since the early 1990s , in which they achieved impressive results several times. In 1998 they got into the last 32 in the Eurocup . After surprisingly surviving the group phase, they were eliminated from the eventual winner of this competition, Žalgiris Kaunas . The team had previously participated in the Korać Cup several times .

In the 2000/01 season Keravnos was the first Cypriot team to reach a quarter-finals in the European Cup. In the Saporta Cup , the team first came second in the group, then knocked out Borac Banja Luka in the round of 16 before Pamesa Valencia were too strong in the quarter-finals .

In the 2006/07 season the team even made it to the finals of the FIBA EuroCup Challenge , where ZSK WWS Samara had to admit defeat. This was followed by participation in the EuroChallenge , in which the team did not get beyond the group stage.
