The National Road 2 ( Chinese  國 道 二號 是 , Pinyin Guódào èr hào shì , English National Freeway 2 ) is a highway in Taiwan . The highway connects the airport of Taipei with the National Road 1 and the National Road 3 south west of Taipei. The road is 20 km long.

course

National Road 2 begins at the terminals of Taiwan Taoyuan Airport and has four lanes per lane. The highway runs in a southeast direction along the Dayuan and Dajhu municipalities . This is followed by a large interchange with National Road 1, a long-distance highway from Taipei to Kaohsiung in the south of the country. From this intersection, the motorway is only expanded with a total of six lanes; it leads past the core city of Taoyuan . Not far from the city, National Road 2 ends at a motorway triangle with National Road 3, which, like National Road 1, leads to southern Taiwan.

history

In 1980 the new Taipei International Airport opened. In this context, the construction of National Road 2 began. Construction was completed on August 24, 1997. Since then, the airport has had a direct connection to the two north-south highways in Taiwan, National Roads 1 and 3. The route was opened with a maximum speed of 90 km / h. In April 2003 the top speed was increased to 100 km / h. On January 23, 2006, the Dajhu Interchange was opened to traffic.

With the increase in traffic to the airport and the growth of Taoyuan City , the traffic jams increased significantly. Therefore, since 2009, national road 2 has been widened to four lanes per lane on the section between the airport and the intersection with national road 1 and to three lanes per lane on the section up to the triangle with national road 3. This project was completed in April 2012.

Traffic volume

In 2009, 60,000 vehicles were counted to and from the airport every day. More than 110,000 vehicles were detected daily on the route from National Road 1 to Taoyuan. According to this traffic count, only 20,000 vehicles drove on Freeway 3 every day.
