Age of Heaven is a Leipzig gothic rock band that was founded in 1991.

history

1991 to 2000

In spring 1991 the band was founded by JU Age, Erik Wolf and Thomas Böttcher. In a band competition she took one of the top places, but did not yet have a name of her own. At a youth festival, the band, now called Age of Heaven , played their own songs. Further local appearances followed. On October 19, 1991 the band played at the Moonchild Festival in Leipzig's Eiskeller together with The Invincible Spirit . After a few concerts with Mirco Schulze on bass, Christian Schierwagen joined the band.

The first demo tape Heaven's Tears was recorded in early 1992 . At Pentecost 1992 the Wave-Gotik-Treffen took place in Leipzig . The band opened this first meeting. Then magazines and fanzines began to take an interest in the band. Further concerts followed. The recording of the first album started in winter 1992/1993.

Several line-up changes took place in the band. In January 1993 Torsten Sander took over the position on bass. In March 1993 the third tape True Faces was released . In addition to other live performances, an appearance on MDR entitled Armageddon took place in August 1993 . In the fall of 1993, further recordings began in the studio to complete the debut album Armageddon . A record deal with Dion Fortune was signed.

The album was released in March 1994. In April the band played at a festival together with the bands Love Like Blood , Still Patient? and Dreadful Shadows . In October 1994 the band met for new studio recordings. An EP should be created. There should be two releases from the album Armageddon in new versions and new recordings of older songs. During the recordings there were musical differences between the band members. A planned Dion Fortune Festival tour was canceled for this reason. There was a break in the studio. At the end of 1994 Thomas Böttcher and Erik Wolf separated. The recordings were canceled.

In the spring of 1995 the band started playing concerts again. Jens Pittler took over the guitar part and played a small tour as a guest musician. The music magazine Zillo released another CD of the Zillo compilation with The Providence as the opener.

Torsten Sander switched to the guitar. In the spring of 1996 he played the guitars for further studio recordings. The label Age One Music was founded, on which the album The Garden of Love was released at Whitsun 1996 . Yvonne de Ray now took over the keyboard. In autumn, Axel Marburg joined the band as the new bass player. With that the line-up was complete again. Winter 1996 to spring 1997 the band was on another tour. This ended with a performance at Pentecost at the 6th Wave-Gotik-Treffen.

2000 until today

In the following years it became quiet around the band. The official website went online in March 2001.

In 2004 there were first considerations to revive the band. This thought first took shape in January 2005. On June 3, 2005 Age of Heaven played a reunification concert in Leipzig's Moritzbastei on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the organizers and the DJ San Diego.

In 2009 it was announced on the band's website that they were working on new songs again. At the Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2011 Age of Heaven appeared in a completely new line-up except for JU Age in the Agra Hall . Guitarist Torsten Sander has been back since the end of 2011.
