Agence de l'eau

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Agences de l'eau are the name of the six French “water agencies” that were established by law in 1964 and whose functions were redefined by a law of January 3, 1992. The six agencies correspond to the six major catchment areas in France.

Each agency is a state body that is responsible in particular for coordinating the Schéma directeur d'aménagement et de gestion des eaux ( SDAGE - Guideline for the Management and Management of Waters) and the resulting Schéma d'aménagement et de gestion des eaux ( SAGE - Plan for the management and administration of waters) is concerned.

At the instigation of the Board of Directors, which unites the various players in the field of water management (administration, consumers, corporations), it supports the activities of local units and industry in drinking water treatment. It acts like a mutual in that it redistributes the taxes levied on consumers.

The Agences de l'eau, however, have no competence to issue regulations; this remains the exclusive right of the state.
