Aglaspis spinifer is an extinct species of the arthropods (Arthropoda) from the Upper Cambrian .

features

The head plate was semicircular and ended laterally in spikes reaching up to the second tergite . The dorsal eyes were smooth and centered. The trunk consisted of 11 tergites that became narrower towards the tail spine, which ended laterally in pleural spines that were initially short, then became longer and more strongly curved backwards. The tail spine ( telson ) was oval to circular in cross section at the base and then became pointed and long. The first pair of antenna-like extremities stood facing forward at eye level. The other extremities were similar and protruded sideways.

Locations

Aglaspis spinifer was found only in the St. Lowrence Formation, three miles east of Gotham, Richland County , Wisconsin .

Systematics

The species was first described by Gilbert Oscar Raasch in 1939 and served as the name-bearing type of the family Aglaspididae and the order Aglaspidida .
