Agnandia ( Greek Αγναντιά ( f. Sg. )) Is a village in the Greek region of Thessaly . Together with the settlement of Stagiades it forms a local community ( Τοπική Κοινότητα Αγναντιάς Topikí Kinótita Agnandiás ) in the municipality of Chasia in the municipality of Meteora with a total of 342 inhabitants. Until 1930 the village was called Ostrovos .

location

Agnandia is located in the Chasia Mountains in northern Thessaly, on the border with the Western Macedonia region . Neighboring towns are Kakoplevri and Oxynia in the south and Agiofyllo in the east. The small town of Stagiades is about 2 km to the southwest.

Administrative division

After Thessaly was annexed to Greece in 1883, the place then called Ostrovos belonged to the municipality of Oxynia. The rural community of Ostrovos ( Κοινότητα Οστρόβου Kinótita Ostróvou ) was founded in 1912. It consisted of the place of the same name and Stagiades, the renaming from the Slavic Ostrovos to Agnandia took place in 1930. In the course of the municipal reform in 1997, Agnandia was merged with two other rural communities with the municipality of Chasia , which had existed since 1994 , with the implementation of the administrative reform in 2010 this went into the the newly created municipality of Kileler .

Attractions

The monastery Kimisi Theotokou Stagiadon ( Μονή Κοιμήσεως Θεοτόκου Σταγιάδων Moní Kimíseos Theotókou Stagiádon ) is located on the eastern outskirts of the village of Stagiades. Little is known about its construction time and history. The former monastery was converted into a nunnery in 1968. The cells and functional rooms of the monastery community surround the Catholic Church , consecrated to the Dormition of the Theotokos . The cross-domed church is painted with good quality frescoes from the early 17th century. The carved iconostasis with the icons dates from the early 18th century. The narthex is decorated with frescoes by the Epiriot hagiographer Michail tou Michail from 1780. The monastery catholicon was placed under monument protection in 1994.
