Agnes de Châtillon

Agnès de Châtillon (* 1153 , † 1184 ) was an Antiochene princess from the noble family Châtillon and queen of Hungary by marriage. She became the ancestral mother of the later kings of Hungary, as a result of which practically all ruling houses in Europe descended from her.

Life

She was the daughter of Renaud de Châtillon-sur-Loing (* 1124, † 1187) and his wife, the Princess Constance of Antioch .

She grew up in the court of the Byzantine Emperor Manuel I on. In 1172 she was born with the Hungarian King Béla III at the age of 19 . married. In Hungary she took the name Anna .

She died at the age of 31 after twelve years of marriage after giving birth to six children. It was in the basilica in Székesfehérvár buried, later, her body was in the Matthias Church after Budapest transferred.
