Epitaph of Agnes von Weimar-Orlamünde in the church of the Himmelkron monastery

Agnes von Weimar-Orlamünde († September 19, 1354 ) was the abbess of the Himmelkron monastery in Upper Franconia .

She came from the family of the Counts of Weimar-Orlamünde and was the daughter of Count Otto III. and his wife Agnes, a born Countess von Truhendingen .

In the tradition Agnes is named as the first abbess of Himmelkron. Her father founded the Himmelkron Monastery on December 28, 1279. Due to the long period between the founding of the monastery and her death in 1354 and because Agnes is not mentioned in the foundation letter, it is assumed that there was at least one other abbess or prioress in the early days of the monastery .

The epitaph of Abbess Agnes is to the side of the choir in the monastery church. It is attributed to the Wolfskeel master, who also created the epitaph of Otto II von Wolfskeel in the Würzburg Cathedral .
