Clemens Arnold

Clemens Arnold (born August 31, 1978 in Melbourne ) is a former German hockey player who was the goalkeeper of the world championship team in 2002.

Career

Clemens Arnold was born in Australia, but returned to Germany at the age of one and a half. His club career began with HC Heidelberg . With the Harvestehuder THC , Clemens Arnold became German champion in 2000. He later worked for Dürkheimer HC and Gladbacher HTC .

In 1997 he reached third place in the Junior World Championship with the German national junior team, and in 1998 he won the European Junior Championship with the German team. In 1997 he made his debut in the German national hockey team , with which he became European champion in 1999 . In 2000 he took second place with the German team at the FIH Champions Trophy . At the Olympic Games in 2000 , the German team took fifth place. If Clemens Arnold was a substitute goalkeeper for Christopher Reitz until 2000 , he was promoted to the regular goalkeeper of the German team from 2001. In 2001 he won the team at the European Indoor Championships and the Champions Trophy. At the 2002 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur, he was the backing of the German team that won the world title for the first time.

For this he received the silver laurel leaf with other players of the national team (e.g. Björn Emmerling, Philipp Crone) .

At the Champions Trophy 2002, the German team took second place. In 2003 Arnold became European champion for the second time , with the final against Spain only being decided in the penalty shootout. At the end of his international career, Clemens Arnold won the bronze medal at the 2004 Olympic Games . In total, Clemens Arnold guarded the German goal in 150 international matches, three of them in the hall.

In addition to his sporting career, Clemens Arnold completed a degree in aerospace engineering.
