Agostino Patrizi Piccolomini

Agostino Patrizi Piccolomini , Latin Augustinus Patricius Piccolomineus also Augustinus Patritius de Piccolominibus (* around 1435 in Siena ; † 1495 or 1496 ) was a Catholic bishop and papal master of ceremonies .

Augustine Patricius was born as the son of the notary Aloysius Patrizi. He got his nickname after the real name of his patron Pius II (Enea Silvio de 'Piccolomini).

Agostino Patrizi worked as a ceremonial cleric in Rome from 1466 to 1488 with interruptions. In 1484 he was appointed bishop of Pienza -Montalcino and remained so until 1488.

In 1485 he first printed a Roman pontifical on behalf of Pope Innocent VIII . His three-volume book on the rites of the papal court, Rituum ecclesiasticorum sive sacrarum cerimoniarum SS Romanae ecclesiae ( Cæremoniale Romanum for short , to be distinguished from Caeremoniale episcoporum ), first published on March 1, 1488, first printed on November 21, 1516, became famous : " Pater sancte, sic transit gloria mundi " (" Holy Father, the glory of the world will pass "), testifies to the inauguration of a new Pope. Augustinus Patricius is also the author of the Chronicle Abbreviatio Historiarum Blondi . He also wrote "De legatione Germanica Francisci Piccolomini cardinalis Senensi" (1471), a text that describes his journey through what is now South Tyrol in Italy and Tyrol in Austria. He particularly goes into the distances and geographical conditions.
