Agustín Fernando Muñoz y Sánchez, Duke of Riánsares (born May 4, 1808 in Tarancón , Province of Cuenca , † September 11, 1873 in Le Havre ) was the morganatic husband of Maria Christina of Naples-Sicily , the queen and regent of Spain .

Life

Muñoz was the son of a tobacco shop owner in Tarancón and joined the bodyguards , where he caught the attention of the queen. Soon after the death of King Ferdinand VII on September 29, 1833, she married him on December 28, 1833 in a secret ceremony. A public marriage would have made her lose her reign based on the guardianship of her daughter Isabella . Agustín Muñoz 'marriage to her was public knowledge.

In 1840 the situation became untenable and the couple went into exile in France and Rome . After the fall of Baldomero Espartero - who had ruled since 1841 - in 1843, Muñoz and Maria Christina returned to Spain.
