Career

The 177 centimeter tall defender Firoud grew up in French-occupied Algeria as the younger brother of the future French national player Kader Firoud and began playing football for CDJ Oran , who was based there. As a young adult he went to metropolitan France, where he played as an amateur for Véloce Vannes . The player, who is based on the right defensive position , attracted the attention of the first division side Stade Rennes and was committed by them in 1945. On September 2, 1945, he made his debut in the top French league at the age of 23, but did not make the breakthrough at Rennes and had to be content with occasional missions. In 1946 he moved with his teammates Joseph-Marie Chipponi and René Raphy to the second division SCO Angers , with a total transfer fee of one million francs for the trio . At Angers he immediately became a regular player. With the team he just failed to rise in 1947 and turned his back on the club in the same summer to sign with league rivals OGC Nice .

With Nice, where he was also an integral part of the first team, he was promoted to the top division in 1948. The team immediately settled in the upper half of the table and improved steadily, so that they could celebrate winning the national championship at the end of the 1950/51 season. 1952 succeeded in defending the title. Firoud was there at a time when substitutions and substitutions were not yet possible, mostly part of the first team, even if he was not completely undisputed in the championship years. He was also called up when Nice fought in the national cup final in 1952 for another trophy and won it with a 5-3 win against Girondins Bordeaux . This title followed in 1952/53, the crash into the lower half of the table and in the summer of 1953 Firoud's departure from the first division when he turned his back on Nice and found a new employer in the second division club SC Toulon . At Toulon he occupied most of the time on a regular place, but he was part of a team that was far from a possible promotion. He remained loyal to the club until he ended his professional career in 1957 at the age of 35 after 137 first division games with one goal and 183 second division games with six goals. He then took on the role of player- coach at Rapid Menton and let his career come to an end. He continued his professional life as a physiotherapist in Nice.
