history

Until the territorial reform in 1974, Ahmstorf belonged to the Gifhorn district . Through local history research we know today that the first documentary mention does not give any clear information about the time the village was built. The oldest known document in which Ahmstorf is mentioned comes from around 1150 AD. This document is a list of goods from the St. Ludgeri monastery in Helmstedt, in which the village "Amulungsthorpe" was written. In 1311 one wrote Amelinestrop and in 1489 Amestroppe. In the middle of the 18th century, the Lords of Veltheim on Beienrode owned the manor in Ahmstorf, which was not replaced until 1869. Ahmstorf was always a small farming village, in 1489 the village had eight half-span farms and three Kothöfe. These farms were located as a village on the flat slope on both sides of the small stream north of the Uhrau. Six larger courtyards were on the south side with the rear facing the lowland. It was not until the 19th century that the village expanded with the addition of farms and residents. As a result of the potash mining in the nearby town of Beienrode, twenty-eight new residential buildings were built. A post mill stood on the Mühlenberg in Ahmstorf until 1918. In 1897 the family founded a dairy. In 1962 the Ahmstorf dairy, like all smaller dairies in rural areas, ceased operations. The juice factory founded as a limited partnership in 1892 also created additional jobs. Syrup was produced up until the 1920s and press cake as a feedstuff was a waste product.

Today Ahmstorf scores with a beautiful landscape such as large forest areas, the Horst, the Bisdorfer Holz, with a new planting on the Haagholz, the Ölper and the Dorm. The area is ideal for hikes, bike tours and also for trail riders. There are around 32 horses in the village, plus a group of riders called "Ahmstorfer Feldjäger".

Education

An application was made in Fallersleben on January 25, 1815 to establish a school. The cowherd's house, built in 1807, was chosen as the school and teacher building. The "teacher Schulze" gave lessons there in his living room. It was not until 1845 that a second floor was built above one of the house halves. In addition, the schoolhouse received a bell tower, the construction of which was linked to the ringing of the prayer bell with the school service. While in 1888 there were 27 students in the classroom, in 1893 45 children had to share the cramped space. In the spring of 1900, construction began on the school building that is still standing today. Classes began on October 13, 1900, and there were 48 children of different ages in the class, all of whom were taught together. The tower clock, which still rings today, was purchased in 1910. Up to 1964, classes were held in one class.

societies

The coat of arms of the shooting society

The oldest club in the village is the Schützenverein, founded on July 20, 1887. The Ahmstorf Schützen-Gesellschaft celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2012. The coat of arms of the Schützengesellschaft Ahmstorf shows in the upper half a windmill in silver, which once stood as a visible symbol of the place on the Mühlenberge, which is symbolized in the lower half by the slightly rounded field. The millstone inside reminds of the oil mill that led to the establishment of the place. The ears of wheat in yellow to the left and right of the windmill are intended to represent the agricultural use of the area.

Years ago there was also the sports club "Gut - Muts", founded in 1925. In the turmoil of the Second World War this dissolved, today there are mind games to revive the club.

The focus of today's club life is next to the shooting club and the volunteer fire brigade. The Ahmstorf fire brigade has existed as the “youngest association” since 1931 and also contributes to the design of the village.
