history

Ahsen-Oetzen originated on islands within the arms of the Weser and can be described as a swarm settlement . Oetzen is first mentioned in 1250 and Ahsen in 1534. Through the law on the reorganization of the municipalities in the Verden area of ​​April 6, 1972, the municipalities of Ahsen-Oetzen, Morsum, Beppen and Wulmstorf were merged to form the new municipality of Morsum on July 1, 1972. Since November 1, 2006, Morsum and Thedinghausen have formed the new, enlarged municipality of Thedinghausen.

From the middle of the 18th century until 1959, there was a ferry station on the Weser between Grinden (municipality of Langwedel ) and Ahsen (municipality of Morsum ) with up to four hand barges and a loading ferry for the farmers who cultivated land on both sides of the Weser. Since 2005 there is a ferry again as a tourist attraction.
