St. Nicholas in Aicha

Aicha ( Italian Aica ) is a village in South Tyrol and a fraction of the municipality of Naz-Sciaves . The village is elevated above the Eisack at around 750  m above sea level and has over 500 inhabitants (as of 2017). The village is located on the western border of the municipality at the transition from the Eisack valley to the Wipptal in the immediate vicinity of the Franzensfester reservoir . In Aicha there is a church dedicated to St. Nicholas. According to tradition, a chapel was built around 1400. The current church was built in the late 16th century. On the facade above the church entrance there is a fresco attributed to Friedrich Pacher . The picture on the high altar shows Saints Nicholas, Oswald and Katharina and is attributed to Johann Mitterwurzer.
