Schmiechen Castle is a former moated castle, located in Schmiechen in the Aichach-Friedberg district . Only a four-storey building and remnants of the former utility building are left of what was once a magnificent building complex.

history

The castle was a block-like, four-storey hipped roof building , the core dates from the 16th century. It has been changed several times over the centuries. In 1509 the Fuggers bought the Hofmark and renovated the dilapidated moated castle, which was completely devastated during the Thirty Years War . In 1809 Joseph Hugo Fugger sold the completely ruinous and uninhabitable castle to Bishop Clemens Wenzeslaus of Augsburg. After only three and a half years, the Royal Bavarian Secret Council Klemens von Thünefeld became the new owner of the castle, who had the building demolished in 1827 due to the advanced deterioration to the remainder that is still preserved today. 1937 died Leopoldine Baroness von Thüne field the family of Thüne field from. The Wiedersperg-Leonrod family lives on the grounds of the castle.
