Burgstall Adelzhausen

The high medieval castle stable Adelzhausen, also called Nieder-Adelzhausen , was still in the 19th century in the center (Hauptstrasse 13) of Adelzhausen in the district of Aichach-Friedberg in Swabia . The fortress was the predecessor of the remains of the castle complex on the Bäckerberg ( Burgstall Bäckerberg ) east of the village.

history

Already around 780 the local founder Adalhelm transferred his goods to "Adalhelmeshusir" (houses of Adalhelm) the diocese of Freising . In the High Middle Ages the Wittelsbachers acted as guardians of the property of the Freising Church in this area. In the center of the village sat a family of servants "von Adelzhausen" as administrators from the Palatinate on a small hilltop castle (Motte). These gentlemen from Adelzhausen first appear as witnesses in the donation book of the Indersdorf monastery around 1210 .

The motte in the village was abandoned in the 13th century and moved to the nearby Bäckerberg. At that time the Freising possessions had already passed into other hands. In the middle of the 14th century the family had to give up this second castle. In the dukes of 1280 and 1343 the old castle is referred to as "inferius Adoltshusen" (Nieder-Adelzhausen).

description

The Burgstall was removed at the end of the 19th century "to improve the road conditions". On the first photo of the map NW 11-14 (1811) the typical round earth cone of a high medieval tower hill castle can still be seen. A description from 1910 gives the diameter of the earth's cone with about 30 meters. The plateau is said to have covered about 11 meters. Today's “young farm” is probably located on the area of the former outer bailey , which was probably only fortified by a wattle fence or palisade .

The Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation lists the ground monument as a medieval castle stable under monument number D 7-7632-0049.
