history

View from the southwest

The original place name "Erinespurch" refers to the castle of an Erin, which probably already stood on today's Kirchberg in early medieval times. The preserved features of the terrain indicate a relatively large raised hide, into which the partially preserved tower hill was built in the High Middle Ages.

In the local historical sources there are no further references to a medieval local noble family. However, a legend tells of a robber baron Hans von Eurasburg. The knight to Count Ulrich von Moerungen a murder have foisted. During his execution in nearby Friedberg , the count predicted that a pine tree would grow out of his innocent blood . In the first half of the 20th century, a large pine tree actually grew out of the Köpfhäusl , a defensive tower below Friedberg Castle .

Like the other tower hill castles in the vicinity ( Burgstall Kissing , Burgstall Bachern ), the Eurasburger residence was certainly abandoned as early as the 12th or 13th century. The Romanesque parish church of the village was built on the castle plateau at the end of the 13th century . At that time Eurasburg belonged to the Wessobrunn monastery .

Helmut Rischert suspected the castle would go down in 2008 during the dispute between Duke Ludwig, the diocese and the city of Augsburg over the city bailiff. The lords are likely vassals ( ministerial ) of high pin Augsburg have been.

In the 19th century the earth cone of the main castle was crowned with a crucifix . A small Marian grotto was built at the southern foot of the hill . The Burgplatz is freely accessible.

description

The Burgstall is about 25 meters above the main road on a hill that runs to the west. The slopes are artificially steeped in the south of the Geländesporn. To the northeast of the preserved tower hill, a wide erosion channel protects the castle square. A paved path enables the descent into the village.

The earth cone of the main castle is accompanied in the north by a berm - probably a filled ditch . The tower hill is about ten meters high measured from the berm.

A hermitage was located on the plateau until 1890, which was renovated in 1855 at the expense of an innkeeper. The surviving crucifix was placed on May 3, 1853 as a replacement for an older cross, whose tinny figure of Christ was adopted. From the southwest a narrow path enables the ascent to the cross. On this side the cone of the earth is changed and flattened by the construction of the road.

To the west of the main castle, the castle grounds were leveled. The small parish church with the parish cemetery has stood there since the 13th century. The church was probably only built on the area of a bailey after the castle was abandoned . In the west, too, the plateau has been greatly changed by the creation of a driveway and the parking lot.

On May 5, 1834, the Eurasburg pastor Franz Anton Haindl planted a linden tree on the southern edge of the Kirchberg, which he dedicated to Christoph von Schmid , the Augsburg canon and writer for young people . The inscription on the small monument that Haindl had erected below the linden tree in honor of the poet commemorates this day.

The Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation lists the ground monument as a medieval castle stable under monument number D 7-7632-0018.
