history

Gereut Castle appears for the first time in 1285 when it came to Berchtold von Schneitbach. Around 1300 the Haslangers acquired the castle. The gender mentioned was elevated to the state of Bavarian barons in 1622 and to the state of counts in 1745 (the last of the count's family died in 1804). Many important officers and officials in the service of the Bavarian rulers came from the noble family. In 1840 the counts of Maldeghem's family bought the castle, which they never lived in. In 1972 the Rössig family bought the building and two hectares of land for DM 160,000 .

description

The medieval moated castle was probably expanded into a representative four-wing complex with an arcade courtyard in the 16th century at the latest. Around 1685/70 the castle, which like the village was owned by the von Haslang family for almost 500 years, got its baroque appearance. The St. Georg castle chapel was also expanded in a baroque style. Curved stepped gables replaced the previously steep stepped gables. The gate with its gable roof was replaced by a tent roof with a lantern and an onion helmet. The dwelling with the bell tower above the castle chapel on the east wing had undergone a similar change. The originally simple gate was also given a decorative frame with flanking columns and an open-work gable. Corner structure, pilaster strips and cornices in a contemporary profile gave the facades a new face here and on the east wing. In the 19th century, it was demolished: what remained was a three-wing complex with the arcade courtyard opening towards the park. Not only the southern wing was demolished, but also the farm buildings. Most of the moats were also filled in:

Little remains of all the splendor of past centuries. Beautiful stucco ceilings and the remarkable equipment of the chapel with three cross vaults on consoles and the high altar with the painting of the Annunciation from the 17th century are the last witnesses of the interior art and decoration of the 17th and 18th centuries .

The castle and its park are not open to the public.
